Wikis!

Posted by: lynnp88 on: April 20, 2009

This week we have been learning how to create a wiki. Amy & Lynn created a wiki about lesson ideas to be used within the Primary classroom and Joanna worked with Jade & Nicola to create a wiki about the ancient and refined wonders of the world.

Visit our wikis via the links below:

The Hustle!

This video was actually made a while ago at a tractor show I played at with Newmilns and Galston but I had to share it with you- who can resist this cheesy classic?!?

Scottish Museums

Posted by: Amy on: April 6, 2009

Scotland has some great art museums to visit! My personal favourites are the Burrell Collection and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. For more information about these collections click on the name of the museum you would like to know more about!

Ice Skates

Posted by: lynnp88 on: April 6, 2009

I purchased my skates online at http://www.everglides.co.uk/. Follow the link to reach the site. They sell ice skates (both figure skates and hockey skates) as well as other equipment such as skate guards, boot bags and training aids learning to skate.

When I received my skates, I was able to custom fit them to my feet by placing the skates in the oven and wearing them for 10 minutes to mould the skate to my foot shape.

The Scottish championships ‘09

Posted by: joannaloughran on: April 6, 2009

On the 22nd of March (I would have told you sooner but I’ve just started the blog) Newmilns and Galston competed in the Scottish Brass Band Championships.

We came 3rd!!! You can see a brief crit of our playing at 4 bars rest.

This was a marked improvement on last years ‘last place’ title. I’m not so sure that last place was deserved you can check us out in this recording and I’ll just clarify that of course the mistakes and tuning errors are because of the substandard recording not the playing!

As I have said in my personal page one of the artists that I admire is the Marc Chagall.

Marc Chagall (7 July 1887 – 28 March 1985), was a Jewish Russian artist, born in Belarus associated with several key art movements and was one of the most successful artists of the twentieth century. To find out more information about Chagall’s life and his paintings click here.

The Guardian

The Guardian website has an Art and Design section which I find very interesting. It features articles on modern art as well as on great art from the past!

The Bolero

Posted by: lynnp88 on: April 6, 2009

On tour, the two couples with the highest score (judges scores & public votes combined) skate the Bolero. The Bolero was made famous by Torvil & Dean at the 1984 Olympics. All the couples lined up on the ice to discover their fate – each wearing the signature Bolero colour: purple.

The celebrities line up to discover who will skate the bolero.

Newmilns and Galston Band

Posted by: joannaloughran on: April 6, 2009

I’ve been a member of the Newmilns and Galston Silver band for about a year and a half. We have a great website that tell you all about us and even how to book us (you know, in case you are in desperate need for a brass band to entertain at that special occasion!)

We practice two times a week, which can seem like a lot but we always make time for socialising after practice!

As you can see, the uniforms are a bit of an outrage but as I’ve been told before- it’s not a fashion show, it’s about the music!!
